Our 2023 Quarter 1 Initiatives to Help Our Communities Get the Most Out of Life
Our purpose of helping people get the most out of life has always motivated us to do what we do. Permeating this culture throughout Prudential, we would like to share with you our initiatives to give back to the communities in the first quarter of 2023.
PRUCare Farming
We concluded Phase One of the PRUCare Farming Sustainability programme that started in February 2022 with a funding amount of RM270,000. During this period, 310 beneficiaries from 60 families were trained and given tools to start up their own vegetable and fish farm while selling surplus produce. In addition to improving food security, the families saw a marked increase in income at 55 per cent on average. The programme includes three parts; to impart techniques and knowledge on how to maintain vegetable and fish farms, to provide high demand seeds, fish fry and farming equipment, and to give a platform for the farmers to sell their produce at markets. Given the programme’s success, a Second Phase involving 50 more families in Kota Belud will commence on 1 May 2023 to 1 April 2024 with a funding amount of RM220,000.
GMW 2023
In support of 2023 Global Money Week’s theme of “Plan Your Money, Plant Your future”, we reached out to the youths through our financial education programmes in both physical and digital formats. We ran the Duit Right programmed in Sekolah Henry Gurney, Melaka with the aim of empowering the 103 students participating to make positive financial decisions by helping them understand good money management habits. We also ran a social media campaign for both Cha-Ching and Duit Right programmes to raise the awareness and importance of financial education among the students through an interactive financial education game – Cha-Ching Money Adventures.
International Volunteers (Cianjur)
Prudential Malaysia deployed our PRUVolunteers to Cianjur in Java, Indonesia after experiencing a 5.6 earthquake back in November 2022. Oragnised by Prudence Foundation together with a local NGO partner in Indonesia, international volunteers were sent to Indonesia to help with rebuilding efforts in the community. Volunteers were split into teams and each team was assigned to a specific project; building work ranged from cutting bamboo, mixing cement, moving sand, hammering bamboo rattan to digging holes for septic tanks. By the end of the week, the volunteers contributed to the construction of ten temporary houses, ten sanitation facilities and five barracks – benefitting a total of 78 families and 235 people.
PRUKasih Aman
The launch of PRUKasih Aman in December 2022 is to provide an affordable and sustainable protection plan for underserved families who are financially vulnerable to income disruptions. To reach out to the communities that need it most, we mobilised 176 PRUVolunteers to reach out to over 35 communities through our 29 Acceleration Drives. With over 3,700 members protected with PRUKasih Aman, we continue to seek out opportunities in underserved communities to provide financial protection.
We are extremely thankful for the support from our partners and from our PRUVolunteers in sharing the passion to help those in need. We look forward to continue helping underserved communities in Malaysia to get the most out of life.
