In this article, Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad's Chief Executive Officer Kelvin Ang shares why helping people make their promises real remains as relevant today as it was when Prudential first began serving Malaysians more than a century ago.
Drawing on a personal memory that has stayed with him since his teenage years, he reflects on why trust, preparation and keeping promises remain central to how Prudential serves customers today.
For more than 100 years, Malaysians have trusted Prudential to be part of some of life's most important moments. At the heart of that trust are the promises people make to those they love: to protect their family, provide for their future, and be there when it matters most. Our role is to help make those promises real.
For me, this is deeply personal. I was 14 when I lost my father unexpectedly. I still remember my uncle asking if I knew where my father's insurance policies were. Like most teenagers, I had no idea. Looking back, that moment taught me how important planning is, and how the decisions we make today can make a real difference to the people we love when they need it most. That experience continues to shape how I think about the role we play in our customers' lives.
The world today is very different from the one Prudential entered more than a century ago. Technology and AI are creating new possibilities for how we serve customers, helping us deliver more personalised, accessible and seamless experiences. Yet some of life's most important decisions remain deeply personal. Whether it is protecting one's health, preparing for retirement, building wealth or planning a legacy, customers continue to value guidance they can trust. While technology helps us better understand and serve our customers, our Wealth Planners continue to play an important role in helping individuals and families make informed decisions about their future.
Staying relevant for more than 100 years requires more than keeping pace with change. It requires anticipating what customers will need next and evolving alongside them. From Prudential Guided Care, which supports customers throughout their health journey, to PRUPrestige Legacy, which helps high-net-worth individuals grow, preserve and transfer wealth across generations, we continue to develop solutions that address the changing needs of Malaysians. We have also pioneered innovations such as the Legacy Settlement Option, providing customers with greater flexibility and certainty in legacy planning. Together, these efforts reflect our commitment to helping customers achieve their health, wealth and legacy goals.
Being recognised as International Life Insurer of the Year – Malaysia at the Insurance Asia Awards 2026 for the fourth consecutive year is a reflection of the trust Malaysians have placed in us for generations. For more than 100 years, Prudential has helped Malaysians protect what matters most and make their promises real, today and for generations to come.
