Malaysia’s Biggest Volleyball Stadium Opens

SIBU, 12 JULY 2016 – The Sibu Volleyball Indoor Stadium officially opened its doors to the public, 5 years since its ground-breaking ceremony in 2011. The opening was officiated by the Sarawak Minister of Youth & Sports & Solidarity, Yang Berhormat, Dato’ Sri Michael Manyin anak Jawong. Located in Rejang Park, the biggest stadium of its kind aims to strengthen Malaysia’s future in sports to produce more world-class athletes, further advancing Sarawak’s systematic transformation plans.

The new stadium is sponsored by Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad (PAMB) to support the Sibu community in strengthening the development of Sarawak, following the government’s vision to build sporting facilities in rural areas and in establishing Sarawak as a centre of excellence.

“The completion of the Sibu Volleyball Indoor Stadium is timely for SUKMA which is happening on 22 July. On behalf of the State Government of Sarawak, we are very grateful to Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad for making this stadium a reality. We hope more companies from the private sector can come forth to support Sarawak’s development of sports in future.” said Dato’ Sri Michael Manyin anak Jawong in his speech at the opening ceremony yesterday.

“The Sibu Volleyball Association is very proud of this achievement as we are the first volleyball affiliate in Malaysia to take up this initiative, and we thank the Sarawak Government for this magnificent opportunity. We take our volleyball development program very seriously, hence we believe this new stadium will propel Sibu into a new era. Not only can more players be trained on our home soil, it brings us closer to our mission of elevating the popularity and standard of volleyball. Most importantly, this new stadium is an avenue to build our youth’s character, nurturing them to grow into confident individuals that will connect culturally and competitively on the international stage.” said Dato’ Moh Wung Ming, Sarawak Volleyball Association (SAVA) chief coach and Sibu Volleyball Association (SVA) Chairman.

“This is a truly momentous historical event, my congratulations on the smooth completion of the Sibu Volleyball Indoor Stadium; may everyone’s dreams and aspirations be closer to reach as a result. We have made it! I hope the game of volleyball is stronger as a group as we move into newer milestones and greater sporting wins.” said Dr. William Ting Wei Ung, President of Sibu Volleyball Association (SVA).

Gan Leong Hin, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad (PAMB) who also was present at the opening said, “As a business that is committed to giving back to the community, Prudential is excited to be a part of a project that realises the Sibu community’s dream. Through this sponsorship, we are very excited to be able to lend a hand to the Sibu Volleyball Association in their efforts to continue to promote the sport among the youth. This stadium is also a way for Prudential to thank our customers in Sibu whose support has been crucial to the company’s continuous growth and success, particularly in East Malaysia”.
